Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co (Singapore) Pte Ltd (STECS), established in 1996, is a subsidiary of Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co., Ltd (STEC), which was founded in 1965. STEC gained prominence as the contractor of China’s first river crossing tunnel, the Shanghai Dapu Road Tunnel.

In 1993, STEC restructured to become the first joint-stock company listed in China's national construction industry. Initially specializing in soft soil tunneling, STEC expanded its capabilities to encompass large-scale municipal construction, TBM machine manufacturing, investment, maintenance, and engineering consulting. STEC has successfully completed many major projects such as highway tunnels crossing under Shanghai Huangpu River and pioneered innovative domestic TBMs like “Xianxing” and “Jinyue,” solidifying its reputation as a leader in tunneling technology.

Since its establishment in Singapore, STECS has evolved from a specialist tunnel subcontractor to a leading main contractor in Singapore’s civil engineering and construction sector. STECS has played a pivotal role in developing Singapore’s major MRT lines, including the North East Line, Downtown Line, Thomson-East Coast Line and Cross Island Line. STECS has a strong track record of delivering large-scale projects for prominent clients such as Land Transport Authority (LTA), Public Utilities Board (PUB), Marina Bay Sands (MBS), Changi Airport Group (CAG) and various private entities. STECS' dedication to technical excellence and on-time project delivery has earned widespread recognition.

To date, STECS has successfully completed over 75km of tunnels and 14 underground stations. It is certified under the IS09001 Quality Management system, IS014001 Environment Management system and ISO45001 Health and Safety Management System, further affirming its commitment to quality, environmental stewardship and safety.
