Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co., Ltd. (STEC) was established in 1965, in 1993, the company was restructured into joint-stock enterprise, and became the first joint-stock company listed in the national construction industry. 

STEC originated in the soft soil tunneling, after five important development phases, eventually, it has formed the "three plus one" multi-core development pattern, including the large-scale municipal projects construction, advanced machine manufacturing, investment, municipal works maintenance and engineering consulting. Currently, STEC is the unique company which owns the capacity of tunnel construction and construction equipments manufacturing in the world. 

With 40-year technical advantages in tunnel and underground engineering, STEC contracted and constructed most of the crossing highway tunnels in operation under the Shanghai Huangpu River, and lots of subway construction projects in Shanghai and other cities in China. Besides, the company also took a lot of construction projects in Hong Kong and Singapore and other overseas districts. STEC has successfully developed the domestic Shield named "Xianxing" for the national plan of Project 863, and the large domestic slurry pressure balanced shield named "Jinyue". 

STEC is the first construction company which has passed the IS09001 quality system certification and the IS014000 environment system certification; it also owns the OHSA18000 Quality System Certification.
